NMA developing 'Irish in Australia' exhibition

National Museum of Australia's Irish in Australia temporary and travelling exhibition

The National Museum of Australia is currently developing a temporary and travelling exhibition on the Irish in Australia, 1788 to the present day and is interested in hearing from regional museums and galleries who may have material culture that the Museum could lend.

Dr Richard Reid is heading the curatorial exhibition team that is developing an exhibition on the Irish in Australia that will open on St Patrick's Day, 17 March 2011.

The main themes of the exhibition are:

Emigration

Convicts

Settlement of cities

Settlement of rural Australia

Irish Nationalism in Australia

Public Life

Irish Australians and Indigenous Australians

Religion

Legends

Irish Australians today

We are interested in hearing from you if your institution, museum, gallery or historical society has material culture that relates to the above themes. We're interested in material for loan but also want to develop knowledge on the national distributed collection of Irish Australian material.
